Description

Set of 3 Bottle-sized Kitenge bags

• 3 bottle bags (for wine and other bottles/ knitting needles & yarn storage/ flip-flops while traveling) Approx. size 22″x7″

Kitenge bags are cloth gift wrapping bags made using traditional Kenyan colorful fabric called Kitenge.

They represent a crucial, next step in our program, where participants learn how to source and invest in local materials, such as Kitenge fabric.

The bags are not only for gift-wrapping, they can be used as travel bags, storage for jewelry, shoes, lingerie and more!

Kitenge bags are:

  • Fair Trade verified
  • Upcycled & eco-friendly
  • Multi-purpose and reusable
  • Fast, flexible and easy to use
  • Socially responsible
  • Sustainably made
  • Fun to give – and re-gift!

Gorgeous fabrics randomly selected. E-mail us your favorite colors or specific requests and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Bags are made in Kenya by the seamstresses in our sewing program. Each bag made after 2014  is initialed or signed by the woman who made it and their profiles and pictures are on the SEAMSTRESSES page of our website.

”Enkiteng” means “cow” in the Maasai language. Since the Maasai community is the first community where we launched the sewing program, we felt that this name was fitting. A cow symbolizes freedom, wealth, and power in this community. Cows are valued as being the most giving animal as they provide milk on a daily basis, and meat in times of need. Cows are also the dowry that is paid by a groom’s family for a girl’s hand in marriage.
